#Solid state drive for macbook air 2008 install
I'd consider going 256 though and getting a cheap external drive for stuff that doesn't need to live on your computer, the savings over a 512 make it way more worthwhile cos you get the speed without the extra space you may not even use before you eventually get a totally new computer. Install Install the OWC ZIF SSD into your MacBook Air, and the original SSD into the included external enclosure. As I now use my DAW off my desktop I'm probably gunna put an SSD in my MBP because IMO it don't need to rely on it as much and the extra speed and subtly less weight are two things I'd love TBH, YMMV, can't think of any more acronyms, sorry.īut yeah, it's worth it for speed and should work, its definitely more economical than buying a totally new computer you don't need I'd say, the drives aren't that expensive. My friend gets computer junk cheap and he just put a 256GB Crucial drive into his old MacBook, probably '07, no problems and he genuinely runs logic and superior on there and it loads easily 3x as fast as my '10 MBP. If it's SATA it should work, I see no reason why it wouldn't but the MacForum is the best place to ask by far. Most of the reviews seem Windows based or later MacBook Pros.Īny insight anyone could give me would be most appreciated. Reviews on it are selling me, but what I'm curious is to if it will work with a MacBook Pro as old as mine (From around early-mid 2008, when they were still all Silver instead of Silver and Black), and if I can get anyway with a larger drive space (I currently have 160 GB, I would most likely buy 512 GB). I recently upped it to 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, plan on getting a new battery, and probably find a way to replace the fan.Īnyway, so I am currently looking into Crucial m4 512 GB Solid State Drive ( : Crucial m4 256GB 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT256M4SSD2: Electronics). Plus, I need to afford another NGD at SOME point in my life ahem, anyway.) Despite the hard drive being wiped clean recently, its still showing some lag, despite never having a lot running at once. I'm doing my best to keep my MacBook Pro running for as long as possible (I don't have the money to invest in a new Mac right now.
